The Wines of Tuscany - Pomino DOC
This wine takes its name from one of the smallest DOC wine-growing areas in the world, that of Pomino , located on a high hill between Rufina and Dicomano.
Already known and appreciated at the beginning of the eighteenth century, Pomino is produced in three different qualities , white, red and vinsanto, obtained from blended Pinot bianco, Chardonnay and Trebbiano Toscano grapes (for the whites); Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot (for the reds). The same vines supply the grapes for vinsanto (white and red).
The whites go well with antipastos , fish, vegetables and boiled meats while the reds go well with cheese, roasts and game. Instead the vinsanto is a strong sweet wine produced in two versions: the dry type being excellent as an aperitif and the sweet one as a dessert wine.
