Churches in Ceraldo near Florence

Chiesa dei Santi Jacopo e Filippo (church of the Saints Jacopo and Philip) - 13th century- that exposes the cenotaph of Boccaccio with a bronze bust by Giovan Francesco Rustici (1503) and the gravestone of Saint Giulia (that belonged to the order of Sante Romite della Valdelsa, like Santa Verdiana in Castelfiorentino or Santa Fina in San Gimignano): she joined the Augustinians of Florence as a nun and when she came back home she decided to cloister herself in a cell that was next to the church, where she died in 1367.

Her cult spread rapidly and in 1372 in the church a new altar in her honour was built, and commemorated in the 15th century "Miracoli della Beata" (the miracles of the Saint) by Pier Francesco Fiorentino. In the church there are some interesting frescoes of 1300 and terracottas of the school of Della Robbia.

In the near Chiesa di San Tommaso e Prospero(St. Thomas and Prospero), today deconsecrated, there is the tabernacle of the Giustiziati that has been reconstituted, with a series of frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli and his collaborators ("Scene della Passione" and "Deposizione", 1466-67).

In the surrounding area there is the ancient parish country church Pieve di San Lazzaro(Lazarus)a Lucardo of longobard origin (built before 1000), frescoed by Cenni Di Francesco and the church of San Donnino (St. Donald) in Gersoè, modified in the centuries and recently restored.

The dome of S. Michele a San Donnino (Santi di Tito, 16th century): it is a copy of the Brunelleschi dome of the Cathedral in Florence but eight times smaller.
