Things to see around Dicomano in Val di Sieve, Tuscany
The territory of Dicomano is rich in archeological remains. The area of Fiascole is the one that shows the most interesting findings: the foundation of the old roman church "S. Martino al Poggio" (6th century B.C. - 1st century A.C. ), the impressive quadrangular boundary of an Etruscan building and a stele of the kind of Fiesole, i.e. a tomb of the 6th century very well preserved.
It is worth seeing the church of San Jacopo a Frascole and the Villa of Poggio. On the Forlivese street, just next to Dicomano, you can see the Oratory of S. Onofrio (1796), example of the italian neoclassicism from the design of Giuseppe Del Rosso. The City Hall lies right in the centre of Dicomano, in the Piazza della Repubblica and has got a typical neoclassical facade, that overlooks a big garden. On a hill, north-east of Dicomano, lies the parish country church of Santa Maria, one of the few sacred buildings that preserves the originality of the romanesque structure, typical of the buildings in the area of Florence in the 12th-13th centuries.
It is definitely worth visiting, in the area of Vicorati, the oratory of Montedomini, built in the 16th century, that lies after Frascole on the top of a wooded hill. It is also interesting to see the church of S. Martino a Corella, (1184) reachable by going up the valley of stream Corella. Going towards Rufina, you will find Contea; here, on a hill just above the village, there is the monastery of San Giovanni Battista in Sandetole, deep in the wood. It currently shows the structure that was built after the reconstruction of 1714.
