Firenzuola in Alto Mugello near Florence
The municipal territory of Firenzuola covers the basin of river Santerno northwards, at the border between the area of Emilia Romagna, while southwards it is marked by the Tuscan-Romagna Apennine, from the pass of Futa to Mount Paganino.
This municipality covers an area of 272.06 square kilometers (it is the first municipality in the area of Florence as far as extension is concerned and the 8th in Tuscany), with a population of about 4800 citizens. It is composed of the following municipalities: Bordignano, Bruscoli, Caburaccia, Camaggiore, Casanuova, Castelvecchio, Castro S. Martino, Coniale, Cornacchiaia, Covigliaio, filigare, Frena, Giugnola, Le Valli, Montalbano, Monti, Moraduccio, Moscheta (Abbey of), Piancaldoli, Pietramala, Rifredo, San Pellegrino, Traversa.
The chief town lies at 420 meters on the sea level and the territory benefits from a very mild climate, particularly pleasant in summer, so that vacation and residential tourism have developed a lot. The main river of the area is the Santerno, that flows from the pass of Futa through the territory for 28 kilometers, until Moraduccio, at the border with the area of Bologna.
