Things to see in Firenzuola near Florence
Il borgo di Firenzuola (the old town centre of Firenzuola) in medieval style: here there is the piazza Agnolo (Agnolo square) in which stands the Rocca (fortress), today seat of the city hall, rebuilt in the post world war period after the destruction of the aerial attacks of 1944, as well as the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista (Church of San Giovanni Battista), also rebuilt in the post world war period. The inside has a nave and two aisles layout and outside the church there is a beautiful bell tower.
Chiesa della SS.Annunziata (Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation): damaged by the bombing of 1944 and restored in the post world war period.
Cinta bastionata del Sangallo (wall circle rampart of Sangallo): the walls and the doors of Firenzuola (Porta Fiorentina and Porta Bolognese) still maintain part of the escarps and angular ramparts that were built after the will of Antonio Da Sangallo il Vecchio in the 15th century.
Chiesa di S. Maria a Rifedo (Church of S. Maria a Rifedo): built before 1000 it has been restored many times. It has got a tower bell with three bells.
Badia di S. Pietro in Vincoli a Moscheta (Abbey of S. Pietro in Vincoli a Moscheta): this abbey was built in 1034 by Giovanni Gualberto of Visdomini. Here the monks of the order of Vallombrosa took care of the poor, the ill and the pilgrims. It has been restored many times; above the arch at the entrance we find some remains of a relief, while in the inside there is a precious astylar cross of golden copper.
Inside this abbey there is the Museo del Paesaggio Storico dell'Appennino (Museum of the history of the Apennine), art of the museum system of the mountain community of Mugello, while its natural environment is particularly beautiful and good for open air activities.
Chiesa dei SS. Pietro e Paolo a Santerno (Church of SS. Pietro e Paolo a Santerno): rebuilt in the 16th century, while in the 17th century it was the Oratorio del SS. Sacramento (Oratory of the Holy Sacrament).
