Livorno, die strandpromenade - Toskana
Die wunderschöne, üppig begrünte Meerespromenade wurde von den Malern der Macchiaioli oft in ihren Bildern dargestellt. Sie schlängelt sich, unter Palmen und Tamarisken, an der Küste entlang, und führt an Klippen, Kiesstränden sowie von Wind und Wellen bearbeiteten Felsen vorbei.
Von dem von der alten Medici-Festung überragten Hafen der Stadt aus, wo Fischer und Sportboote vertäut sind, führt dieser einzigartige, eindrucksvolle, 9 km lange Weg bis zum Ortsteil Antignano: es ist die Viale Italia aus dem 19. Jh., deren zahlreiche Reize es zu entdecken gilt.
An der Straße liegen Badeanstalten, pastellfarbige Jugendstilvillen und hier und dort Pinienwäldchen, in denen Gemäldeausstellungen ausgerichtet werden; charakteristische Cafes laden zum Verweilen ein, ebenso Bootsanleger und kleine Häfen sowie die im Grünen gelegene Pferderennbahn Caprilli, die jede Saison imponierende Galopprennen ausrichtet.
Die strahlend weiße „Terrazza Mascagni“ bietet einen wundervollen Ausblick auf die Inseln Gorgona und Capraia des toskanischen Archipels sowie auf Korsika. Die Panoramastraße führt bis in den Vorort Quercianella, vorbei an Klippen und kristallklarem Meer: ein Paradies für Angler und Taucher.
