Livorno und seine geschichte - Toskana
Livorno entsteht als Hafenstadt in der zweiten Hälfte des 16. Jahrhunderts.
Das ehemalige Fischerdorf, über das sich der Festungsturm aus der Zeit der Gräfin Matilde von Canossa erhebt, wird aufgrund der Militär- und Handelsstrategien der Medici schnell zu einem der wichtigsten Mittelmeerhäfen.
Die Zeugnisse der „Nazioni“, der einzelnen ethnischen und religiösen Gruppen, die bei der Entstehung und der Entwicklung der Stadt zu einem im ganzen Mittelmeerraum bekannten Hafen mithalfen, sind noch heute in den religiösen Gebäuden, den Friedhöfen, in den Archiven und in der Gastronomie präsent.
Am Hafen wacht die Alte Festung (Fortezza Vecchia) mit dem eindrucksvollen Turm „Mastio di Matilde“, die durch interne Wasserwege mit der Stadt und der Neuen Festung (Fortezza Nuova), dem Herzen der Stadt, verbunden ist.
