Die altstadt in Suvereto - Toskana
Das schöne historische Zentrum von Suvereto wird von einer Stadtmauer in Form eines Fünfecks, welche von acht Türmen gekrönt ist, umschlossen. Auf dem das Dorf dominierenden Hügel erhebt sich die "Rocca", einst Garnison der Burg.
Der "Palazzo Comunale" stammt aus der Zeit um 1200 und stellt eines der schönsten Gebäude der italienischen Zivilarchitektur dar, Symbol für die städtische Autonomie. In der suggestiven Atmosphäre des mittelalterlichen Klosters San Francesco finden jedes Jahr Konzerte, Aufführungen und historisch geprägte Veranstaltungen statt.
Die um das Jahr 1000 erbaute Kirche San Giusto befindet sich zwischen der Mauern und dem Zugangstor zum Ort. Sie zeigt romanischen Stil mit byzantinischen Dekorationen. Angegliedert ist das Museum für sakrale Kunst, das bedeutende Skulpturen, Gemälde und liturgische Gegenstände aufbewahrt.
Von besonderem Interesse und künstlerischem Wert sind auch die Kirchen der Madonna di Sopra la Porta, im Dorfzentrum, und die Kirche des heiligen Kreuzes (SS. Crocifisso).
Die alten öffentlichen Brunnen wie die "Fonte degli Angeli" und "Belvedere" wurden einst von den Bewohnern zum Hausgebrauch genutzt und haben erheblichen architektonischen Wert.
