Il commesso fiorentino - Firenze in Toscana

 

La tecnica del commesso in pietre dure è molto antica e molto complessa. Conosciuta anche come mosaico fiorentino, quest'arte fu incentivata nella Firenze cinquecentesca dalla famiglia Medici e fu perfezionata nel corso dei secoli grazie all'abilità acquisita dall'Opificio delle Pietre Dure, un'istituzione fondata nel 1588. Si esegue con frammente di lastre di pietra colorata, private della loro rigidità e trasformate in disegni che riproducono fiori, paesaggi, nature morte.

 

Ogni tipo di pietra dura va bene e ogni venatura e striatura si presta a ottenere effetti cromatici di particolare effetto. Con questa tecnica si possono realizzare piani di tavoli, pannellature, scatole, medaglioni e pendenti: il risultato finale appare all'occhio in tutto e per tutto identico a una pittura. Esempi di questa antica arte sono presenti in numerosi musei fiorentini, da Palazzo Pitti al Museo dell'Opificio, che documenta la storia di questa tecnica fin dalla sua nascita. A Firenze ancora oggi alcuni laboratori artigiani proseguono la tradizione, lavorando prevalentemente su ordinazione. Per vedere i più alti risultati artistici di questa tecnica, si raccomanda una visita al Museo dell'Opificio delle Pietre Dure.
