Radda in Chianti - Firenze in Toscana

 

In posizione di confine tra il territorio fiorentino e quello senese, Radda in Chianti fu spesso coinvolta in travagliate vicende storiche. Fu sede della Lega del Chianti, una giurisdizione autonoma creata dalla Repubblica fiorentina nel 1250 che comprendeva anche Castellina, Gaiole e Greve. A parte la struttura urbanistica a pianta ellittica allungata, di medievale restano soltanto pochi tratti di mura ed alcune torri. Interessante invece il Palazzo Pretorio del ‘400 adornato di stemmi podestarili.

 

Poco distante da Radda, in direzione di Lucarelli e Panzano, si trova l’indicazione per la pieve romanica di S. Maria Novella, unica nel territorio del Chianti per i suoi capitelli decorati con simboli zoomorfi, figure mostruose e disegni floreali che ricordano le pievi romaniche del Valdarno e del Casentino. Il castello di Volpaia è un piccolo agglomerato medievale che merita certamente una visita. All’interno delle mura è un labirinto di vicoletti ben lastricati e conservati tra archi, palazzi e la piccola chiesa rinascimentale di S. Eufrosino (XV sec.).
