Museo della Villa Medicea - Firenze in Toscana

 

La Villa Medicea di Cerreto Guidi, paese non lontano da Vinci, fu fatta edificare da Cosimo I sulle rovine dell’antico castello dei conti Guidi; la costruzione, iniziata nel 1565, non era ancora terminata nel 1575. La tradizionale attribuzione del progetto della villa, e in particolare delle rampe, a Bernardo Buontalenti, che certamente partecipò ad una fase della direzione del cantiere, non è stata provata ma neanche smentita dagli studi più recenti.

 

Il complesso mediceo, oltre all’edificio principale che è sede del museo, comprende anche un giardino retrostante, le maestose rampe in pietra e cotto a faccia vista che inglobano le cantine ed introducono al piazzale d’ingresso, e la "palazzina dei cacciatori" collegata alla villa attraverso un passaggio che corre sul portico della Pieve di San Leonardo. Residenza di caccia e comoda tappa sulla via per Pisa, la villa, in cui nel 1576 morì uccisa Isabella Orsini, figlia di Cosimo I de’ Medici, fu alienata dal granduca Pietro Leopoldo di Lorena nel 1781, ed è stata in mano privata fino al 1969, quando l’ultimo proprietario la donò allo Stato a patto che vi fosse costituito un museo nazionale.

 

Il museo, inaugurato nel 1978 con una serie di 28 ritratti medicei, si è ampliato nel corso degli anni esponendo nei due piani della villa oggetti provenienti dai depositi delle Gallerie fiorentine: mobili del XVII, XVIII e XIX secolo, arazzi medicei del XVII secolo e disegni architettonici offerti da un donatore. Attualmente è in corso la trasformazione radicale del museo che dovrebbe diventare un Museo Nazionale della Caccia.
