General Information
An avenue of ancient cypresses leads to the Tower's entrance.The lovely statue of Charity guards the building and seems to welcome guests. Guido Cavalcanti, a Florentine aristocrat and close friend of Dante, chose this hill to erect his tower and home. Later the Villa was built around the 1400 Tower.
Many owners follow: the Capponis, the Medicis, the Michelozzi and lastly Amerigo Franchetti, the present owner. In 1913 Baroness Marion Hornstein (widow of Baron Giorgio Franchetti) bought the Torre.
She loved entertaining friends, who often stayed on as paying guests. From 1920 to 1948 she kept a visiting book full of affectionate messages from numerous members of the European aristocracy, from musicians, from artists as well as German and Allied generals who in turn occupied the building during the last war.
